Agriculture
Cotton - From field to factory, the cotton industry has historically employed more Americans than any other industry. Cotton has impacted world trade, technological development, the American Expansion, African American history, the Civil War, and the Great Depression. Lake Providence is home to a seven-acre Cotton Museum complex, with an old Planter's House, sharecropper cabin, commissary, plantation church, and more. Cotton is still a major crop in East Carroll.
Raising livestock is also a way of life in the Lake Providence area. The cattle industry provides a second income for many families and is a profession residents are proud of. From beef and dairy products to leather goods for consumers, cattle producers add to the local economy, and are an enduring symbol of the area heritage.
